Senior athletes commit to universities

Six senior student athletes sign letters of intent to confirm their commitment to college teams. After years of training they will continue their sport at a collegiate level.

Six senior student athletes signed to college scholarships during the early signing period. On Monday Nov. 14 at 2:15 p.m. in the media center, Kaylie Butts, Robby Eisch, Grace Owens, John Shields, Ethan Richards and Paxton Rhoads committed to play for teams at universities around the country.

Kaylie Butts has been on the varsity volleyball team since she was a sophomore. She committed to Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

“I’m so excited I’ve worked so hard

for the past two years and like I don’t know and all the decisions I faced. It was a hard decision but I knew right away because the school feels like home to me,” Butts said.

Robby Eisch has been on the varsity boy’s golf team since he was freshman. He committed to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

“I’ve been waiting three years for this moment it’s finally here so it’s a big lift off of my shoulders. It’s probably the most exciting day of my life,” Eisch said.

Grace Owens has been on the varsity girl’s lacrosse team since she was a freshman. She committed to Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York.

“I’m really excited, it’s really relieving after all of this work that I’ve put in, it’s finally coming to an end, coming to a close, so it’s like really exciting,” Owens said.

John Shields has been on the varsity baseball team since he was a freshman. He committed to the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

“I’m about as happy as I can be right now, it’s a really big day I’m really excited for this opportunity,” Shields said. “I’m really glad I’ve got this many people here to come out and come see me. I really want to just give everything to my family and god, I feel blessed.”

Ethan Richards has been on the varsity baseball team since he was a freshman. He committed to the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“I’m really excited to get out of Florida, I’ve been here for a while and I’m excited to serve my country,” Richards said.

Paxton Rhoads has been on the Varsity boy’s swim team since he was a freshman. He committed to Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

“I’m kind of speechless because it’s always been a dream for me as a child. It’s kind of been like my family school so it really feels great,” Rhoads said.
