Part Two

Champions League continues

Another eventful week has guaranteed even more teams to secure spots in the knockout rounds, and after this penultimate week of Champion’s League group stages, teams are preparing to give it their all in their possible last game in this tournament.

In Group E, AS Monaco FC beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1, securing their position at the top of the group. Bayer 04 Leverkusen tied CSKA Moscow, bringing them one point closer to safety. If Leverkusen is able to get a tie in their next game, that will secure them a spot in the knockout rounds, which gives them an advantage over Tottenham, who, to advance, need to win, as well as Leverkusen to lose.

In Group F, Borussia Dortmund won 8-4 against Legia Warsaw, adding 12 goals to the 6 already scored between these two teams in the first game they played.  Marco Reus scored a hat trick after coming back from over six months out with an injury, this being his game back. Real Madrid played and beat Sporting CP 2-1. Both Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid are going to advance, and the team who wins the group will be decided in the next game, as these two teams play each other. If Real Madrid does not win, Borussia Dortmund will come out on top.

In Group G, Leicester City beat Club Brugge 2-1 and FC Porto tied FC Copenhagen 0-0. This secured Leicester City a position at the top of the group, and left a two point gap between Porto and Copenhagen, with Porto having more points. FC Porto plays Leicester City in the next round, a tough opponent, and if they win, they are through, but beating Leicester seems to be a difficult task. Copenhagen has a good chance of beating Club Brugge, as Club Brugge has not managed to win or draw one game.

In Group H, Juventus beat Sevilla 3-1 and Olympique Lyonnais beat Dinamo Zagreb 1-0. Beating Sevilla secured Juventus a position in the knockout rounds, and the battle for second will be fought out in the next round, as Sevilla takes on Olympique Lyonnais. As long as Sevilla does not lose, they will advance. Olympique Lyonnais has to win the game to have a chance to advance further into knockout rounds.

Of the eight advancing teams, five teams have been guaranteed to advance, which were: AS Monaco of France, Borussia Dortmund of Germany, Real Madrid of Spain, Leicester City of England, and Juventus of Italy. Of the three other advancing teams, the ones most likely to advance would be Bayer 04 Leverkusen of Germany, FC Copenhagen of Denmark, and Sevilla of Spain.
