Quarterback Dane Frantzen officially announces commitment to Virginia Tech. During the 2016-2017 season Dane lead the team to the state championship game.

Starting quarterback and senior Dane Frantzen who led the varsity football team to states for the first time in 4 years has officially committed to Virginia Tech. On National Signing Day, Frantzen was originally scheduled to sign along with some of his teammates, but postponed his signing until this past Monday.

” Honestly it wasn’t a suspense thing he just didn’t really know where he wanted to go yet when signing day came. I know for a fact he wasn’t thinking that Virginia Tech was the school he was going to go to on signing day. Once he took his official [tour] that was where he wanted to be,” senior varsity football player Bryce Jenkins said.

The ceremony was held in the football field house at 5 p.m. and many of Frantzen’s teammates, friends, family and coaches were in attendance. Head football Coach Robert Weiner gave a speech regarding Frantzen’s football legacy at Plant.

“I feel like I’m at the end of my favorite book I’ve ever read…I remember when I was finishing my favorite book, I got to the final chapter and I read through the book fast because it was such a good book and it was a page turner.” head football coach Robert Weiner said. “But I got to the final chapter and I wanted to read one page at atime, because I wanted to milk it and make it last as long as it possibly could. And that’s what I feel like right now, I’d like to milk this as long as I possibly could…Into the final chapter of Dane’s football at Plant High School. The good thing is, we know that there’s a sequel that’s going to be written.”

“I’d like to thank Coach Weiner for all he’s done for me, back when I was in like 4th and 5th grade he’s pretty much the reason why I wanted to come to Plant. I wanted to be a part of what I saw,” senior Frantzen said.
