5 Netflix shows you need to watch right now

“Dear White People”

“Dear White People” is a new Netflix Original and remake of the original Justin Simien Film produced in early 2014. A New York Bestselling novel followed shortly after the film was released. The Netflix Original is sort of a homage to Spike Lee’s “School Daze.” The show star’s Logan Browning as an activist in the black community, especially the community of the Winchester University, a predominately white ivy league school. This show accurately demonstrates the racial tension experienced in an academic environment. Simien’s “Dear White People” is funny, addictive and enlightening.

“Master of None”

“Master of None” is produced by Aziz Ansari himself. Aziz Ansari also plays the main character “Dev”. Ansari has made several appearances on many sitcoms especially “Parks and Recreation”. Ansari’s sense of humor that is in his show is visible in his novel “Modern Romance” and stand up specials- Which his first season was loosely based on. Master of None truly captures the modern single life in New York, show business, and being a minority. Great late-night show to cuddle-up and laugh.

 

“Portlandia”

This sketch-based show stars Fred Armisen from SNL and Carry Brownstein. The show started in 2011, based on their internet sensation “ThunderAnt”. The show takes place in Portland Oregon, gently poking fun at Northwestern people. The show is six years old in its seventh season. “Portlandia” is a must-see and deserves more attention. The show touches on feminism, veganism, and farmer’s markets in a hysterical way.

 

“Gracie and Frankie”

The Netflix Original, “Gracie and Frankie”, stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomilin who have an undeniable chemistry on camera. The show débuted in 2015 also starring Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston. The Show starts off forthright when the two women whom are rivals find out their husbands of over forty years are in love with each other. The show is doubtlessly entertaining, romantic, and comedic.

“Black mirror”

If you’ve ever seen “The Twilight Zone” this UK Netflix Original will have you reminiscing of the 1950s syfy extravaganza. The first episode aired in 2011. “Black Mirror” is a modern take on technology and explores techno-paranoia. Each episode has a different plot with a separate cast. This show will for sure convince you to rid of all your electronics and delete all your social media accounts.
