Holloway: An American Musical

School resource officer hosts musical side

Officer Holloway is a familiar face around the school. Whether he is helping coordinate car drop-offs in the morning or supervising football games, this school officer is well-known among both students and teachers.

However, there is a lesser-known aspect to Holloway. Most students are not familiar with his musical exploits.

Holloway is a long-time singer and has also been able to play piano since around the age of twelve.

“I attended church services and had a step-father that was musically inclined,” Holloway said. “I started singing early and messing around with instruments and found the piano, something that came pretty simple to me.”

Church services were a large part in giving Holloway his foundation in music.

“I did praise and worship, sung in the choir [and] was very involved in church functions,” he said.

It’s a good hobby to have; it’s relaxing to me.

Holloway enjoys singing to this day and is an active participant in his church, but he is not able to participate in music as often as he would like.

“I used to do a lot of singing on the weekend in church, but now I’ve started travelling with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so it’s hard to be in church every morning, but when I can be [in church], I sing from time to time,” he said.

Holloway has also been known to perform at some school functions, particularly for the varsity football team.

“The last actual event I’ve done was the football banquet last February,” he said. “I only sang there; I didn’t play piano, but sometimes I do both. At some events, I’ve sung the national anthem or other specialty songs here and there.”

Holloway’s enjoyment for the activity is what keeps him doing it.

“It’s a good hobby to have; it’s relaxing to me,” Holloway said.
