Released Aug. 28, Pumpkin Spice Lattes are currently available at Starbucks. Since their debut in 2003, they have had over 200 million consumers.

It’s that time of the year; leaves are falling, the weather’s cooler and many teens are lining up outside of Starbucks for their Pumpkin Spice Lattes. The craze of these temporal drinks brings with it an obsession bordering on an addiction, but not all think it is the best drink Starbucks has to offer.

“I’m not sure why it’s considered such a big deal,” sophomore Kathryn Ellwanger said. “It’s too pricey and doesn’t look very good to begin with.”

Pumpkin Spice Lattes can be considered overrated, nasty-tasting and just popular since it was a 2016 meme. And the ones who have never tried it believe the hype over it is way too extra and pointless.

“Pumpkin Spice Lattes are way too talked about and not enjoyable any longer,” said sophomore Conor Danewitz. “They represent ‘white girl culture’ instead of Starbucks creation.”

But not all believe the drink to be disgusting and overpriced.

“I love Pumpkin Spice Lattes,” junior Ejirah Shellman said. “Pumpkin pie represents the season, and why not enjoy a pumpkin latte during that time?”

According to Quora.com, since Starbucks released their pumpkin spice drink in 2003, they have had over 200 million consumers. The recipe created by Peter Dukes hasn’t been changed in over 11 years, which may be part of the reason it’s become such a big hit.

This year, Pumpkin Spice Lattes came out Aug. 28, as they usually come out by the end of August or the first week of September. Though it seems that the majority argue that pumpkin spice is not worth the money or the craze, still there are some who stand behind it.

“I love Pumpkin Spice Latte because it has the little sprinkly stuff on it,” freshman Olivia Zavala said.

But there is a small portion who are neutral about Pumpkin Spices, especially the ones who have never tried them.

“I don’t drink Pumpkin Spice Lattes, so I don’t know much about it and can’t agree or disagree with anyone,” senior Tiffany Lim said.

But the ones who have tried them are still not very convinced about them.

“I think Pumpkin Spice Lattes are good in moderation,” sophomore Elizabeth Anderson said. “I like the way they look and taste, but do not think they should be obsessed over.”

Pumpkin Spice Lattes have been a huge hit around the world since they came out, but not all students choose to participate. While most believe they are too expensive and “typical,” they continue to be a favorite for some.
