Madrigals Enchants the Audience

As soon as the lights turn on in the stage the audience listens to a frosty tale. Plant High Chorus hosts it’s 20th annual Madrigals in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Hall and this year they have performed their version of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen” with an icy twist. With some songs from the Disney movie “Frozen”.

“People have been doing Madrigal Dinners for a long time and it’s simply a tradition that I brought back with me to Plant High School.” said Bruce Yost. Students dressed up as knights, courtiers, peasants, shop girls, and porters along with a Royal Court with a King and Queen from the Chamber Chorus.

People are just stunned to see the flashing lights and freezing effects as the characters sing and act. “I enjoy Madrigals very much. It gives the students an opportunity to come up with creative things  and it gives them an opportunity to showcase many other talents not only in singing, but in acting.” said Bruce Yost.

People start to get in the show as the boars head, Wassail, and the flaming pudding comes up as they enjoy the storyline progresses showing them new conflicts and new characters. Madrigals give the audience an important lesson as it tells its icy tale love comes in many different ways and we all show everyone different way to show how much we care about them.

Chorus members start to connect with the characters as they start to go deep into them more and they start to look into the journey beneath them. “I’m Anna and she’s very upbeat and kind of awkward.” said Senior, Rachel Golding when asked about her character.

Madrigals ended with a funny rap by the narrator, a couple of christmas carols from both mens and womens chorus, and Men in Tights sung by mens chorus. Madrigals will always be a memory forever and like many chorus members we’ll all miss the memories and good times they have. “While doing Madrigals what I liked is the practice time and getting to hang out with my friends and getting stuff done.” said Junior, Andrew Vanhorn who plays Olaf. And adding this to the past Madrigal performance this is one performance that we’ll never let go and will always stay in our hearts and memories.
