Junior Night hosts large crowd

In front in a packed auditorium, the College Counselors hosted a “Junior Night”, where they went over multiple points in the college application process. They had a brief and quick review about accessing and sending out ACT and SAT scores via “College Board”, the online application, accessing the transcript and terms for college admissions, such as Rolling Admission and Early Action.

In addition to covering the application process, they also went over the ACT and SAT tests, how to prepare via “Khan Academy”, and the popular topic of Scholarships (including Bright Futures).

Many junior students and their parents came to the event. Many students are interested in attending Florida schools, and this night was helpful in determining what else they needed to do in order to answer their questions about the process.

“I needed the information on how I can apply and what I need to do to get into the University of Florida,” junior Nathan Kovalchik said.

When answering questions, the junior students took time to reflect on their strong and weak points in their college application and resume.

“My extracurricular activities with forming a club in Democratic Alliance of Dedicated Students, as well as my consecutive years on a sports team is definitely my strong part. What needs work is catching up on my grades, because I wasn’t super serious about it last year,” junior Grace Summers said.

When the night came to an end, many students were satisfied on the information they received about the process as a whole.

“I never realized the essays were pretty important and that there was a third part to the Bright Future’s Scholarship, so that was helpful,” junior Hudson Franklin said.

Up next for the Junior class will be going over the course schedule with their respective guidance counselors, and then taking the free SAT in March.
